R. Paul Childress, Jr. has once again been selected to appear in the 2009 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Professional Malpractice law.
David R. Ruby participated as a speaker at a recent Lorman seminar entitled "Commercial and Real Estate Loan Documents in Virginia: More Than Just Papers." Mr. Ruby ’s topic included enforcing loan and security agreements under the Uniform Commercial Code and creditor rights and strategies in bankruptcy.
Michele Mulligan was a guest speaker at a legislative update seminar sponsored by the Central Virginia Chapter of the Community Association Institute in August. Ms. Mulligan, along with three other speakers, addressed new legislative changes affecting community associations in central Virginia, including House Bill 516.
Pat McSweeney, Wes Russell and Kristie Haynes successfully argued to the Virginia Supreme Court that sovereign immunity did not bar two users of the Dulles Toll Road from suing the Secretary of Transportation to enjoin the executive branch from deeding the Dulles Toll Road to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority without explicit authorization from the General Assembly. Thamer “Chip” E. Temple III was elected Vice President of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond in June, 2008 , and he will continue to serve on that Association’s Executive Committee. In the same month, Mr. Temple was inducted as President-Elect of the West Richmond Rotary Club. By virtue of that position, he will also serve on the Board of the West Richmond Rotary Foundation.

G. William “Bill” Norris, Jr. was recently elected Vice-President by the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (“LLS”) for 2009. Mr. Norris has served on the LLS Board since 2005.
R. Paul Childress, Jr. and Nathan A. Colarusso successfully defended a Richmond-area attorney in a legal malpractice case filed in Hanover County Circuit Court. During the two-day trial, held in mid-June, several interesting legal issues were argued, particularly one related to a novel defense related to construction litigation.
Beverley L. Crump and Catherine C. Ayres were re-elected to the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond for the 2008-2009 term. Mr. Crump and Ms. Ayres were charter members of the Executive Committee, which was recently formed in 2007. Mr. Crump was the Chairman of the Business Law Section for the 2007-2008 term.
R. Paul Childress, Jr. was named as Chair of the Virginia State Bar's Special Committee on Lawyer Malpractice Insurance by Bar President Manuel A. Capsalis.
